SoftBank Plans $2B Bond Sale to Fuel AI Investments
SoftBank Group Corp. is preparing a major bond issuance, targeting up to $2 billion from dollar-denominated debt and approximately €500 million ($580 million) in euro bonds. The funds will bolster its aggressive push into artificial intelligence, including Masayoshi Son's $500 billion 'Stargate' initiative and a planned $30 billion investment in OpenAI.
Japanese firms are increasingly tapping overseas debt markets, with issuances exceeding $100 billion this year. SoftBank alone has raised $24 billion through loans and bonds in 2024, marking one of its largest capital-raising efforts to date. The MOVE reflects growing institutional conviction in AI's transformative potential across industries.
